Managing Contacts

Day to day work on the store happens on the All Contacts page: finding a contact, correcting its details, exporting the list, and removing contacts that should no longer be messaged.

Finding a Contact

Search on the All Contacts page matches identifiers, so a contact is found by its email address, phone number or External ID rather than by name. Selecting a result opens the contact record.

Editing a Contact

Edit puts the whole record into edit mode at once, both the reserved fields and the custom field values, and the changes are saved together rather than one field at a time.

Each custom field value is checked against the type of the field before the record saves, so a Number field rejects text and a Date field expects a date. Correct anything flagged, then save again.

Identifier fields stay locked in edit mode. See Identifiers for why, and for what to do when a contact needs to be addressed differently.

Deleting a Contact

Delete on a contact record asks for confirmation, and the confirmation names the identifier of the contact being removed so the right record can be checked before it goes. Deleting a contact removes it from every segment it currently matches.

Deleting Every Contact

Emptying the store is a separate action with a type to confirm step, and the warning explains what is lost: the field values held against each contact, and the membership of every segment those contacts belonged to. The segments themselves are not deleted, they match nothing until contacts are added again.

There is no undo. Export the contacts first if there is any chance the data will be needed.

Exporting Contacts

Export CSV on the All Contacts page downloads the contacts in the store. To export a subset, run the export from a segment instead, which also refreshes the data first. See Exporting a Segment.
