Managing Brands

Edit, duplicate and delete are reached from the Brands page. All three are limited to Campaign Manager, Admin and Org Admin. See Roles and Permissions.

Editing a Brand

Editing opens the same form as Creating a Brand, with the name, description and brand content ready to change.

Brand Type is the exception. It is fixed when the brand is created and cannot be changed afterwards, so an SMS brand stays an SMS brand and an email brand stays an email brand. A brand created on the wrong channel has to be created again on the right one, and an organisation that wants the same identity on both channels needs a brand of each type.

An edit reaches every template the brand is applied to. Because brand values are applied when a run is created rather than copied into the template, a new footer or a new sender is picked up by runs created after the edit, and nobody has to reopen the templates. Runs that already exist keep the values they were created with. See Brand values are applied when a run is created.

Clearing a Sender Field

Clearing a sender, rather than replacing it with another, is the edit worth pausing over. The brand stops supplying the field, so it unlocks on every template the brand is applied to, and it unlocks empty. A campaign whose template has no sender cannot have a run created for it, and a campaign on a saved template with no sender cannot be updated or saved either, so the campaign wizard is not where it gets put right. Setting a sender on the saved template resolves both, and because a Campaigner cannot edit the library that takes a Campaign Manager, an Admin or an Org Admin. See Clearing a sender on the brand.

Replacing the sender avoids all of it. The templates stay locked to the new value and pick it up on the next run created.

Duplicating a Brand

Duplicate opens the create form prefilled with everything from the original. The name is prefilled as "Copy of" followed by the original name, so a duplicate of "ACME Billing" arrives as "Copy of ACME Billing".

Nothing is saved until the form is submitted, which makes this the quickest route to a brand that differs in one field, for example the same header and footer with a different From address. Rename the copy before saving, since the default name says nothing about what changed.

Deleting a Brand

Deleting removes the brand from everything that uses it and cannot be undone.

The confirmation shows what the brand is currently used by, split across Campaigns and Templates tabs. A tab with nothing in it is hidden, so a brand used only by templates shows one tab. Read the list before confirming: it is the full extent of what the deletion changes.

Where the brand supplies a sender, the confirmation carries a stronger warning. Those templates lose the sender along with the brand, and the field is empty until someone sets it, so the same knock-on effects apply as when a sender is cleared on a brand that stays in place. See Clearing a Sender Field.

warning

Check the campaigns on that list against their schedules before confirming. A campaign with a run due shortly will send without whatever the brand was adding.

Templates keep their own content. What they lose is what the brand contributed: the header and footer it added, and any sender it supplied.
